We recently did a blog on the wide selection of marble
options for your home. As gorgeous as natural marble is, we all know it has its
quirks. It can be quite a challenge to maintain due to its porous nature…
stains, scratches and discoloring to name a few. Now don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love marble and believe
with the right maintenance is a stunning option for any home. That being said,
for those of us with busy lifestyles, maintaining our beautiful marble
countertop can be the last thing on our minds. Luckily there are plenty of
synthetic marble lookalikes out there that are just as beautiful and much more
durable.
Manufacturers such as Silestone, Pentalquartz, Dekton,
Cambria, Neolith and Arizona Tile carry lovely alternatives to marble including
the not so natural stone, quartz. Unlike marble, quartz is nonporous and very
durable due to the fact it is made up of 93 percent crushed quartz and 7 percent resin. Neolith is also a gorgeous option. Similar to quartz, it is scratch resistant, easy to clean, can withstand hot and freezing temperatures; but unlike quartz, it is 100% natural and contains no resin. Food for thought.
In one of our recent projects, we opted for faux marble in
the kitchen and powder room. The fact that it requires zero upkeep and was close in cost greatly
appealed to our client! Here are some of the other cultured marble samples we
encountered during this project before our client decided on Calacatta,
Neolith. ( Stay tuned for blog on finished Sapphire project!)
Don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and try something new! Sometimes you will discover a better version of something you thought was flawless, such as faux marble!
